Started the day off on Friday flying in a R-22 Helicopter with my Nephew, Ryan. Perfect calm and sunny day and it was fun to have a bird’s eye view of the “Sundog” moored up. At the end of the run way he let me try out each of the controls one at a time and got me to the point where I could hover somewhat on my own. I was amazed at the sensitivity and am truly impressed with his abilities to fly so well. After this experience somehow just working my engines forward and backward to slide into a slip seems much less intimidating.
The biggest to-do yesterday was building the crib for the triplets and with some 1/2 inch plywood and some rails. We now have a solution, a crib by night and the railings slide under the beds by day – problem solved. The next creative design will be a place for them to sit next to the table for eating and while underway. Spending a couple days in Friday Harbor with 60 degree weather has been a real treat and a chance to check off a large list of smaller to-do’s.
We are making a slow transition from the old name “Irish Bailey’s Dream” to “Sundog”. We have pulled the old name boards off and put on ours. When Cathy arrives we will smash a bottle of Champagne over the bow and, of course, enjoy one to drink. We are starting to get to know the boat now. Having Larry along for several days to assist with the multitude of projects has been invaluable. Part of the slow transition to being the “Sundog” has been a nightly sip of 16 year old Scotch that has a cool sailboat insignia on the bottle.
Larry is at the helm and we are on our way back to Anacortes so that he can catch the 3:00 shuttle back to the airport and home to Alaska. The rest of the afternoon will be just clean up and catching up on some work. The seas right now are flat calm, RPM’s at about 1400 and moving along at a steady 8kts. Gorgeous Sunny day and expected to be in the mid to high 60’s. I just feel blessed to be alive. Part of that good feeling comes from my fresh new underwear – it was hard to come by in the little town of Friday Harbor but Larry found them and life is good. Time to hit a laundry.
Cheers from the Sundog Crew and Happy Easter tomorrow
