Dillingham Alaska School District Visit
This last Monday and Tuesday I had the opportunity to meet with the Dillingham School District leadership to start the process of a brand new website to replace the current site at http://www.dlgsd.org
One of my favorite parts of my career is spending time with our customers learning about the goals they not only have for their website project but to learn about their lives, their unique stories that most all Alaskans have to share. Living in Dillingham alone is an adventure and I could quickly see what an important part of the community the school district is. One of my goals with the trip was to jump in the Bering sea but for some reason I never built up the courage or energy to dive in and the shoreline was more muddy than I anticipated, I know, I am a wimp but the Barrow polar bear plunge will have to do for this year.
I wanted to just thank the school district for the opportunity to visit and especially to Andrew Berkoski for being a gracious host. In between meetings Andrew drove me out to the village of Aleknagik and it really made me want to come back and float these lakes and explore this beautiful country. One thing is for sure, living expenses are high in these remote villages and I went into N&N to buy a small ice cream and it was cheaper to get a whole half gallon so I went for it. Nothing like pounding down 1/2 gallon of dreyers at about $10, well it was a weak moment and I will make up for it in the gym today… really:)
Well I suppose I better stop talking about the adventure of the trip and get to work designing the new website. Having the opportunity to meet the team in person, experience the culture of the district goes a long way towards a successful design project and I now feel armed with what our team needs to proceed.
Keep in mind that our team is glad to fly out to meet with your organization pretty much anywhere in the state.
Cheers,
Joe Law
