Well, Joe is off across the Gulf of Alaska with Mike Phelps + Larry & Brandon Carmichael from our home church, Immanuel Baptist. They were in Elfin Cove last night. Unbelievably, Joe just called from Elphin Cove ~ they have cell phone coverage way out there!! They enjoyed a Great steak dinner with one of Mike's friends that guides out there.

Anyway, they are heading for Latoya Bay or Yakitat... I hope. I'd really feel best if he & his crew went all the way as Latoya can be very treacherous. I continue praying for flat seas in the Gulf of AK!! Currently it's very calm. He texted me a photo and I'll load it when I can figure out how! :-)

The 5 kids & I arrived home Sunday 11:30pm after a tiring day of delayed flights, incorrect calculating of the size of my car so stroller didn't fit once we arrived in Anchorage, (Thankfully Granny Linda saved the day with her car & Nicola & she loaded it there & delivered it to my house that night!!) and just the stress Goodbyes of separating for a week.

No sitter help today but I've got to shop today anyway as all 3 have now learned to crawl out of their beds & Gabriel learned yesterday afternoon how to open doors!

Roche Harbour... Humm... I had the brilliant idea that it would be fun to let the babies use up sone of their energy walking the dock with me to shore & try out the new $50 harnesses Joe picked up in Annacortes. BAD idea... Didn't I mention I had headstrong toddlers?! What makes me think that they'll change?! Oh well, we made it about 30 slips down before the circus of lifting, carrying one hanging, one pulling forward & one pulling toward the water, etc. etc. I don't know where I get my ideas but sometimes I wonder if I really am the valedictorian I was or if my mind's been transported to some other body! I know they say having children doesn't really cause someone to lose brain cells but I think that I've somehow become the exception. :-D it's been a tough day. I always feel so much more energetic in the mornings! Wait... I mean midday! Mornings start sooner than I like! I'm a 10-6 energy person. Once the frustration of being woke to crying babies passes I feel good and then sometime during or after dinner I feel overwhelmed again and need a break. After 7:30 & the babies are in bed I begin to recover and feel like I'm me again and can resume breathing without being needed. Ahh, the early days of a child's life cause a mother to feel like she's necessary but often overwhelmed. I thought 2 was the toughest thing I'd been through, besides childbirth, but then I had a c-section and triplets so small they could only drink 1-2 ounces at a time... Then they grew and stayed awake for extended periods of time & developed needs & wants other than "mommy's milk" which presented additional challenges. Life's full of changes... Good thing we can do all things through Christ who gives us strength! I'd better get some sleep though... ~ SundogCathy out!

Comment on Happy Easter by SundogCathy

Easter Weekend was a Lot different in Anchorage than it was in Annacortes... I've got to say I am Glad I was home & not on the boat!

Saturday was a test of patience and endurance! I had the bright idea of taking the triplets to their first Easter Egg Hunt. There were TONS of people... They were too small to actually get to any eggs so ended up with -0-. Bummer I know but I was the only one really disappointed! After I realized that, I did pretty well. :-) They thought they were there to watch all the crazy people! Joshua did pretty good so that worked out.

After the hunt we came home & I put them down for their nap. Gabriel woke first at 3:30 projectile vomiting cottage cheesey looking stuff... Then Josiah woke doing the same... then Daniel followed 10 minutes later... Getting the idea of how the day's going yet?! :-) I managed to clean the 3 cribs, change the sheets, clothing, crib toys, babies & of course clean up the floor mess just before Josiah let out another projectile. Yep, the day's definitely getting tougher! And... I managed to clean that up from everywhere just in time, yep, for another Josiah projectile! Now I'm getting stressed out. They've been up 1 hour and I have cleaned up the carpet 5 times, babies and clothing 7 times, yes 7! Josiah managed to cover the brothers too.

I got smart though. I took them upstairs and set the gates around the kitchen penning them into the only tiled area of the house... Good thing too because Josiah vomited 6 times before bedtime and another time once I got him into the crib... which I proceeded to clean again :-) I was stressed all afternoon but they kept drinking water up a storm so I figured, they're hydrated, they'll be ok. After they all vomited in the beds again... I called the doctor! I know, I know. A person would think I'd have called much earlier, but then that person probably doesn't have triplets either! :-) Somehow they keep you so busy that you don't have time to think until they're finally asleep. And they were at least contained in bed and I had a chance to think... I don't want to cart them all to the hospital + Josiah in the middle of the night so... I'd better check if something is going around and I need to do a night watch in their room or if I can rest knowing that likely as not, they'll be fine... just keep the baby monitor on in case there is some strange noise happening in their room!

The doctor's office said that if a child vomits more than once, don't let them have food or water for 2 hours. If they haven't tossed their cookies during the last 2 hours, then..... give them 1 Tbsp water every 5 minutes for 2 hours. If they sleep, no problem, just continue when they wake. (Thank goodness!) If they don't keep it down, start over with 2 hours no food or water again. If they keep it down, increase to 2 Tbsp every 5 minutes for 4 hours. If they don't keep it down, start again at the beginning. If they keep it down, allow some Cheerios or Saltine crackers and clear liquids for the next 4 hours. If they don't keep it down, start again at the beginning. If they keep it down, allow them food as desired.

Easter Sunday at 6:15 am Josiah was crying. I checked him and he'd thrown up 2 x during the night, one was solid dry and the other damp. Ugh, another set of bedding, clothing, baby & floor to clean up. But, I gave the poor fellow the benefit of the doubt and started the 1 Tbsp water every 5 minute routine right then with hugs to help keep him content between allowed beverage... They're used to an 8 ounce bottle of warm milk to start the day. Next Daniel woke crying and when I got him out of the bed I noticed he was covered in dry vomit too... Ohhhh another crib, baby, clothing & floor to clean! But I started him on the 1 Tbsp every 5 minutes routine too, in step with Josiah's bottles to keep them from stealing them from each other... Lastly Gabriel awoke... No vomit. Yippeee! And by 9:15 I started them on 2 Tbsp every 5 minutes... They were incredibly fussy though so I called the Dr again. They said I could do Pedialyte so... I mixed 8 ounce bottles 1/3 strength of Pedialyte and started the routine every 5 minutes 2 Tbsp around 10 or so... They LOVED it! (Yes, I actually had Pedialyte in my laundry room on the shelves... Never know what to expect around my house. 1st time I've ever used it but... I'd purchased it just before the triplets were born in case I ever needed any... Guess I needed it!)

Anyway, they HATED the 5 minute wait! Finally, around 11:30, they started to fill up and were content to wait the few minutes between servings. And, happily, at 1:30 they started Cheerios (actually, Kix but they're basically the same, right?!) They held it down and ate Kix all afternoon. Bedtime they had their Much Desired 8 ounces of warm milk! Happy babies but they still wanted more. Pedialite and that was the end for the night.... What an Easter weekend... Ahhh... Time for bed... Have a great week!
